Animals are truly beautiful creatures that many of us love. This is why in the world of video games it is increasingly common to see releases that use the possibility of petting dogs or cats as a marketing tactic. Final Fantasy XVI jumped on this trend, but when the producer tried to show it off, things didn’t go well.
At PAX East, Square Enix shared various details and answered questions about Final Fantasy XVI. Thanks to this, those who are waiting for the title were able to learn more about the world, its characters and the game system that promises to revolutionize the series to make it more accessible.

The name of the Square Enix panel was “Yes, you can pet the Torgal”, which is a reference to a famous Twitter account that tells you whether or not you can pet pets in games. To be faithful to the title, Naoki Yoshida, producer of Final Fantasy XVI approached Torgal with the intention of caressing him and showing what a beautiful moment one can experience in the JRPG.

So, DualSense in hand, Yoshida led Final Fantasy XVI protagonist Clive towards his canine companion. Pressing a button to interact with Torgal, Clive drew his sword from him and attacked his partner. The PAX crowd screamed and Michael –Christopher Koji Fox, location director, hit Yoshida’s right arm. At this, Yoshida apologized, but made it clear that Torgal can dodge and cannot be killed.
Later, Yoshida acknowledged that he had the wrong button, so he later showed that Clive can pet his wolf and even give him treats. With this, the curious moment ended in a tender and beautiful way.
