With each passing day we get closer to the release of Final Fantasy XVI, the new installment of the popular Japanese role-playing franchise. In the midst of the expectation, there are still many doubts about its temporary exclusivity with PlayStation 5. Now, Square Enix creatives have shed more light on this situation.
During a recent chat with IGN, producer Naoki Yoshida and combat director Ryoto Suzuki discussed the action-RPG’s spectacular combat that combines gameplay sequences with cutscenes.
The power of the PS5 makes Final Fantasy XVI combat possible, says Square Enix
According to the creatives at Square Enix, the “next-generation combat” of Final Fantasy XVI is only possible thanks to the power of Sony’s next-gen console. It is worth noting that they refer to the high profile battles where we are an Eikon.
“While you’re fighting Ifrit and Garuda and having this big battle, the PlayStation 5 loads the next scene in the background; is being prepared so that we can move on to it without a problem,” said producer Yoshi-P.

“You are graphically represented the fists, the claws and the wings; all in real time and with these beautiful graphics. Doing all of that smoothly and without load times was possible thanks to the power of the PS5. If we didn’t have the memory that the console has, and also the transfer speed of the SSD of the PlayStation 5, we would still be in development right now,” Ryoto Suzuki added.
In case you missed it: Final Fantasy XVI does not have turn-based battles because of Grand Theft Auto
It is not the first time that Square Enix members have talked about the PlayStation 5 and temporary exclusivity. Last year, Naoki Yoshida promised that Final Fantasy XVI will show the full power of the console. Most recently, he revealed that engineers from Sony Interactive Entertainment assisted in development.
Now, will the RPG come to PC? The Japanese producer reported that the temporary exclusivity of PS5 will last 6 months. However, he notes that the PC version won’t come immediately after. He comments that they want to port and think they will eventually, but confesses that it’s hard to put a date on the calendar right now.
But tell us, do you agree with the creatives? Let us read you in the comments.
