After years of requests by FIFA players to add women’s soccer teams, EA Sports decided to heed it and added different European leagues and teams led by women. On March 22, he updated the list with more international leagues and women’s teams, however, the player reaction was negative due to the terrible designs that his skins have in the video game.
Angel City FC striker Sydney Leroux tweeted her rendering of FIFA 23 with a message making her displeasure clear: “You’re going to scare my children”. The player, who put the lousy representation as a profile photo, compared this version with the one from FIFA 16, which had much better quality and attention to detail: “They had the headband, the braid, the tattoo on their neck, their eyebrows too plucked and someone even made me MORE BREASTS! Deflate my breasts a bit and put me in a different sweater. I’ll keep my eyebrows at this point.”
Leroux, who has been the most active on networks following the FIFA 23 women’s roster update, has also retweeted reactions from other players who are disappointed in their portrayals: Janine Beckie sarcastically speaking of her “lost twin” who looks nothing like her, Caprice Dydasco directly throws that “this does not represent me”considering that his character presents a light skin color and a face foreign to his Hawaiian features.
Women’s football has been considered undervalued due to the little interest shown by the media in its dissemination and treatment, something that seems to be repeated in FIFA 23. A Tweet of Sydney Leroux confirms that the company if you were asked to perform a full body scanwhich makes the final result disappointing due to the poor quality compared to players of the same title.
