The current economic situation around the world has caused a great impact on large companies and their employees. Facebook’s parent company, Meta, has announced the layoff of thousands of workers in just a few months after announcing massive cutbacks.
According to information from The Verge, Facebook has made an administrative decision that will affect 10,000 employees from different divisions of the company. These staff reductions will take place over the next two months. In addition, the company will end its recruitment process that offered 5,000 vacancies.

The first round of layoffs will take place this week and will affect the recruiting organization. The second will take place in April and will affect positions in the technology division, while the last will take place in May and will kill several positions in the business division.

“My hope is to implement these organizational changes as soon as possible this year so that we can get through this period of uncertainty and focus on the critical work ahead,” said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, in a letter posted on his official profile on Facebook.
As part of these cuts, Meta has also canceled various “low priority” projects that generated various “indirect costs.” Among them is the possibility of sharing NFTs on Facebook and Instagram, as well as the group dedicated to creating new social applications, which was surely responsible for creating the rival of Twitter.
