There are video games that start off on a very bad foot in the industry. An example of this is Days Gone, the last title that has been released Bend Studio and that landed exclusively for PS4 four years ago. Yield errors and graphic failures weighed down much of the projection that Sony had trusted in the work.
However, the passage of time has done the open world of zombies a lot of good. And it is that while on Metacritic it shows a 71 from the critics, the community has raised it to a very interesting 8.4. If you haven’t tried it yet, you can get your hands on it through PlayStation Plus Extra, Premium and PS Plus Collection, but be careful about which console you’re going to play on.
While on PS4 it’s absolutely enjoyable, Days Gone has a next-gen version if we opt to take advantage of it on PS5. Fabulous 4K resolution along with the ever-loved 60FPS awaits for you to ride your motorcycle through a devastated universe. A global pandemic has devastated society as we know it, turning humans into monstrous beings, so the only remaining civilization resists in small settlements.
Step on the accelerator
We have to put ourselves in the shoes of Deacon St. John, the typical outlaw biker who is now a kind of bounty hunter. His life pursues a single purpose, since it is to reunite with his girlfriend two years after they last saw each other. However, as usual, not everything will go smoothly. The plains of the Pacific Northwest in the United States is the main scenario in which we find ourselves, being able to go through lush forests, extensive meadows, snowy terrain and even places where lava has wreaked havoc.
We will see all this with our own eyes raised above a bike that takes center stage in Days Gone. We have to take care of it, since it is the main means of transport to move around the world, so we always have to carry the necessary resources with us to repair it if it suffers a mishap. Best of all, gasoline is not infinite, so we cannot step on the accelerator mercilessly to reach our destination as soon as possible.
You have to be very careful that the meter is still at the top, drop down the slopes with the engine off and try to keep in mind that you will have to refuel at any time. There are gasoline cans at certain points, although you can always resort to the blessed gas stations to pour a few liters without getting off the motorcycle. On the other hand, we can decorate it to our liking to show off the best pints in the middle of the apocalypse.
A world full of dangers
The threats that you can find in Days Gone there are many. The animals themselves are a danger to avoid, since you can be stalked by a pack of wolves at any time; although it is much worse to have to deal with a huge bear. The fauna does not make it easybut the main problem is the monsters that number in the hundreds.
One of the technical wonders that Bend Studio always boasted about was the game’s ability to show authentic hordes of beings chasing you like World War Z. Up to 500 infected can go en masse for Deacon, so you have to prepare very well the area with traps to annihilate them all. Otherwise, they will end up tearing you apart.
The fact that we have a dynamic day and night cycle, which deeply affects the hordes. During the day they are much more inactive and slow, being their main battlefield at night to destroy everything they see. In addition, we must take into account even more dangerous infected and that have mutated in horrific ways.
However, we cannot forget about a threat that never goes away. The humans themselves are still wildly aggressive, putting ropes on the road to knock you down in their path. There are two ways to approach them, either unceremoniously and aggressively or by going stealthy by wiping out an entire camp without them realizing what just happened to them.
There is always something to do
Days Gone It presents random events that will complicate our existence while we visit its places. You can be assaulted by humans, surprised by a horde of infected or hallucinated with the speed of wolves chasing you while accelerating. To counter them, you have a fairly wide arsenal of weaponsalthough there are items like melee items that break, as well as silencers.
Therefore, you always have to explore and search among the remains of civilization to get everything you need. As if that were not enough, the game has a survival mode that makes enemies tougher and imposes new rules so that you have a challenge to overcome. If you’ve already squeezed the most out of everything a game has to offer, you can always turn to New Game+ to bring all your progress to the world reset.
