BRUSSELS, 08 MAR – The European Commission has decided to extend temporary protection until March 2024 and is ready to extend it further until March 2025. This was announced by the EU Commission, which today adopted a communication on the matter. The EU activated the mechanism foreseen in the Temporary Protection Directive on 4 March last year to offer immediate and effective protection to people fleeing Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. So far, around 4 million people have obtained immediate protection in the EU, of which over 3 million in the first half of 2022. (ANSA).
