England has booked the second victory in the European Championship qualifying series. Three days after the victory over Italy (1-2), Ukraine was also defeated. It became 2-0 at Wembley, where Serdar Gözübüyük was the referee.
Harry Kane gave the English the lead in the 37th minute. England’s all-time top goalscorer scored with a left-footed volley after preparation by Bukayo Saka. A few minutes later Saka scored himself. The 21-year-old Arsenal player turned away from his opponent and hit his left from about 20 meters.
Kane was substituted in the closing stages and replaced by Ivan Toney. The Brentford attacker made his debut in the England national team.
The English national coach Gareth Southgate did not have access to Phil Foden. The 22-year-old Manchester City attacker has undergone an operation on the appendix.
Italy will play the away match against Malta later in the evening.
