Last February, 9,954 jobs were lost in Mexico, both formal and informal, mainly due to the elimination of jobs in the agricultural sector, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Despite job losses, the number of unemployed fell by 173,000 people to reach 1,631,000with which the unemployment rate decreased based on original figures from 3.0% in January to 2.7% of the economically active population in February, marking a new minimum.
This was due to the fact that 183 thousand people left the labor market in the second month of the year, with which the economically active population decreased to 59.9 million.
According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey #ENOEin February 2023 there were 58.3 million people employed.

How did informal employment move?
While 391,000 jobs were created in the informal sector, 401,000 jobs were lost in the formal sector, a figure that contrasts with the IMSS data, where an increase of 176 thousand was registered. In this sense, it can be inferred that jobs were eliminated in other areas, such as federal and state workers, as well as in the Army.
In this way, the employed population in the labor informality reached almost 32.4 million people, which represents 55.5% of the total employed population, a rate higher than the 54.8% reported a month earlier.
