The Noorderlicht was en route from Trondheim to Nørvik when the ship ran aground near a small island near Rugholmen last night. The ship is listing.
Waiting for tugboat
Most of those on board have been disembarked. Two people, the skipper and the engineer, have remained on board to wait for a tugboat to pull the ship free, a spokesman for the Norwegian Rescue Center told Norwegian media.
Heavy snow showers
How the accident happened is still under investigation. According to the captain of the rescue ship Harald V, there were heavy snow showers and poor visibility.
The sailing ship would be making an organized trip. The Noorderlicht is part of travel organization Swan Expeditions. He could not be reached this morning for more information.
