Suara.com – The Indonesian Parliament Concerned Community Forum (Formappi) criticized the oversight function of the DPR on the government. The DPR is considered weak in carrying out the functions of government policies.
This highlight is an evaluation of the DPR’s performance during session III for the 2022-2023 session year.
Formappi researcher Taryono said that oversight of government policies was the element of DPR oversight that was most evenly carried out by the Commissions on their working partners during MS III. Unfortunately, he said, the supervision of commissions tends to be normative.
“Almost all commissions seem to support the programs planned and implemented by their partners. The supervisory role seems powerless,” said Taryono, Friday (10/3/2023).

Taryono said that the DPR should always question every policy taken by the government to ensure that the mission of each program implemented is always directed at the interests of the nation and the people as the top priority.
Apart from the oversight function of the government, Formappi also highlights other oversight functions carried out by the DPR.
Taryono said that in several other cases, the DPR was seen to be very reactive and ferocious in carrying out its oversight role. A number of old cases were suddenly scrutinized by the DPR, for example the case of dismissing a village official unilaterally without a written recommendation from the Camat; land disputes, land mafia, as well as issues of HGU, HGB, and HPL that do not match their area and designation; consumers ordering Meikarta Apartments in Bekasi; compensation for the victims of the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 crash; victims of the football match tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang; and the appointment of teachers who graduate as Government Employees with Employment Agreements (PPPK).
According to Taryono, the DPR’s fierce stance in front of those in charge of these cases should have been appreciated because they represented the expressions of the citizens who were victims in those cases.
“However, if you look at the time when these cases occurred and the DPR’s response when these cases occurred, it seems that the emotional outbursts of DPR members in MS III were too late. Because of that it is not impossible that the DPR’s ferocity over old cases in MS III was not driven by humanitarian motives to defend victims, but more because of purely electoral political considerations,” he said.

Taryono saw that by hitting on the people in charge of the old cases above, the DPR wants to be seen as representatives of the people who care.
“In fact, they only want to give a good image ahead of the general election. In other words, the DPR is just looking for attention,” he said.
Based on these matters, Formappi concluded that the implementation of the DPR’s oversight function tends to be normative and ineffective.
“In some cases, the DPR looks reactive as if it defends the interests of the people. Unfortunately their response does not come from their own initiative, but from the struggles of the people who complain to the DPR. Because these cases have been happening for a long time, the DPR should have responded long ago. When they are only reacting now when the 2024 Election is in sight, the DPR actually looks like an overslept hero,” he said.
