LONDON – A cow managed to attract sympathy from around the world after pretending to sleep so as not to be milked.
The cow, named Doris, is part of a 200 strong herd on the Isle of Wight dairy farm. He has appeared on US news programs and has more than 1.5 million views on TikTok.
The video that sparked all the frenzy shows farmhand John Brodie trying to coax a seemingly disinterested Doris out on a cold morning two weeks ago.
Brodie said the footage shows how Doris is “more human than a cow”.
The video taken by Brodie at Reads Farm near Newport was purely for the sole purpose of entertaining his wife, Laura.
“Laura thought it was funny and put it on TikTok – I didn’t even know it,” she said.
All that changed when Radio One DJ Greg James played audio on his breakfast show the next day, with thousands of people expressing sympathy for Doris’ reluctance to get up too early.
“I identify as Doris,” one person commented, while others claimed the cow to be their own “spirit animal.”
Brodie was later interviewed by CNN, telling reporter Jeanne Moos about how Doris had always had a tendency to be “brash”.
