According to Buya Yahya, there is an equation in the words alms and debt.
Therefore, Buya Yahya said that these alms and debts also have rewards.
“If you pay off the debt it is an obligation, the reward is greater than alms,” explained Buya Yahya.

Even though both are money matters, there is a reward that becomes good for one of them, according to the owner of the Al Bahjah Islamic boarding school.
“How much difference can it be compared to you giving alms to paying debts,” he added as quoted on (14/3/23).
However, there is one thing that can make one of them a big sin.
“If you pay debts, it’s mandatory and if you delay it becomes a sin,” explained the cleric from Blitar.
When the debt is due, the obligation to pay the debt is greater than alms.

“So your debt (is) a debt that is due, you have to pay it at that time, so you can’t give alms at that time,” he said.
“If you give charity, the fall of the unclean, sin!” concluded Buya Yahya firmly.
