Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic was disappointed with the elimination in the eighth finals of the Champions League. “It is a hard result that we have to accept. We are very disappointed,” he said. Chelsea were 2-0 too strong in London, after Dortmund won the first game at home 1-0.
“It was two exciting matches,” said Terzic. “In the second half we were dominant and created a lot of chances. But in the end it was not enough. Chelsea deserves to continue in two games, but we also deserved it.” Regarding the penalty kick from which Kai Havertz made Chelsea 2-0, Terzic said it was a very tough decision.
Midfielder Emre Can was especially angry with referee Danny Makkelie, who, on the advice of the video referee, gave the penalty kick to the home team because of hands from Marius Wolf. “The penalty kick and the repetition of it is a real scandal. You need personalities in those moments. Makkelie is a very, very arrogant man”, Can grumbled. “How can he give a second penalty kick, I don’t understand that. He shoots the post and that’s it. We lost undeservedly because of the referee. Maybe he was afraid of the supporters. Then UEFA should send another referee.”
