Cyberpunk 2077 had one of the most disastrous launches in recent years. Not only did it debut fraught with technical issues on all platforms, but also many of its mechanics and design decisions fell far short of resonating with the audience; Simply put, it didn’t survive the hype. It looked like it was going to go down in history as an appalling flop for CD Projekt RED, but it recently had a resurgence.
As you probably already know, in September 2022 the animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners debuted on Netflix. Its reception was extremely positive and, to a large extent, it gave the video game that gave rise to it a second chance both commercially and critically.
After the premiere of the anime and an update that added many new features, the open world video game was revived and managed to break new records on Steam and reach a new sales milestone. This resurgence has been reflected in the excellent financials that CDPR has achieved in recent months.

In a recent call with investors, Piotr Nielubowicz, CFO of CD Projekt RED, discussed the Polish studio’s 2022 profits, revealing that they had their second best year thanks to the uptick in Cyberpunk 2077.
According to the information, CDPR generated approximately $222 million in revenue last year, which translates to around $81 million in net profit. This represents a 66% increase in net profit. This is very interesting, especially when we consider that there was no major release in that period.
The positive results are largely attributed to the revival of Cyberpunk 2077. The Polish studio explained that sales increased immediately after the release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and comments that they have been sustained for a long time. In the presentation, he shared a graph showing the rise in positive reviews.
