The Dutch national team had its worst start in over a hundred years in Paris. After 21 minutes, the team of national coach Ronald Koeman was already trailing 3-0. That last happened in August 1919. Then it was 3-0 for Sweden after 20 minutes. The Orange lost that match 4-1 at the time.

Antoine Griezmann, Dayot Upamecano and Kylian Mbappé were accurate for the French in the initial phase. Mbappé also scored in the 88th minute.
In the last minute of the stoppage time, the Netherlands received a penalty kick. That was missed by Memphis Depay.
The Orange started with Lutsharel Geertruida, Kenneth Taylor and Xavi Simons in the base. It was his debut for Geertruida, Simons first appeared at the kick-off for the Orange squad. Taylor was substituted after the dramatic initial phase. Daley Blind came in and played his hundredth international match.
Koeman did not have a number of intended basic players at the Stade de France. Frenkie de Jong retired early this week with a hamstring injury and another five players dropped out on Thursday, including Cody Gakpo and Matthijs de Ligt.
