Until a few years ago, business laptops were machines that we could consider too serious and even boring, but things have changed a lot, and the new Dell Latitude 9440 2-in-1an elegant and very well prepared convertible.
The team stands out for the design of its keyboard, for a touchpad in which shortcuts to video calls are integrated and for a sustainable construction and in which cooling plays an important role.

Balanced outside and inside
The rise of teleworking certainly seems to have influenced the development of this Dell Latitude 9440. We are facing a compact 14-inch computer —but dense, 1.5 kg— which has an elegant and sober design on the outside and with the most interesting details on the inside. This equipment has also passed the MIL-STD 810H resistance tests.
At Dell, the importance of sustainability in its products is highly highlighted, and in this convertible, 75% of the chassis makes use of recycled aluminum both in the cover and in the wrist rest area. That helps reduce the “carbon footprint” of the equipment by up to 90% according to this manufacturer.
The Dell 9440 certainly stands out for its screen with QHD resolution and almost no frames -91.5% use of the front panel-, which also adopts a 16:10 format and has a brightness of up to 500 nits.
It is also tactile, which allows us to interact in this way directly on the screen and also make use of an Active Pen (optional stylus) to be able to draw or take notes directly.
Connectivity is served with the support of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, but we can also count on 5G connectivity if we choose the variants with the nano SIM slot to take advantage of that option. ExpressConnect technology allows in the latter case to combine the two connections to speed up downloads.
The available ports are three USB-C with Thunderbolt 4 interface and a minijack port for headphones. Here we do not have an SD card reader or other types of ports —HDMI, USB-A—, something that would be ideal to avoid having to resort to special cables or adapters.
The equipment has 13th generation Intel Core processors, with the i7 models being the most powerful option. We can also have up to 64 GB of RAM and up to 2 TB of storage. The cooling system, based on heat pipes and two fans, is also carefully developed to avoid overheating in the equipment.
The 60Whr battery promises remarkable autonomy, and here Dell offers three different adapters ranging from 60 to 100 W. In the latter case we can charge 35% of the battery in 20 minutes with ExpressCharge Boost technology.
Videoconferencing to power
This exterior design is accompanied by an interior in which there are two differential elements. The first, the “Zero-Lattice” teclado (zero grid), which abandons the “island” format of the keys: here they are all together, which allows their size to be considerably larger than usual. The backlight system is also special in terms of its efficiency, which helps to extend the autonomy of the equipment.
The second of those elements is the touchpad, which Dell calls Haptic Collaboration Touchpad and that it has direct access to videoconference functions. This allows us to quickly have options such as activating and deactivating the camera and microphone, for example, within our reach.
This is precisely an area in which the Dell Latitude 9440 is especially interesting, since it has a FullHD webcam with an IR sensor and is also capable of protecting privacy with the SafeShutter electromechanical shutter that is activated with the F9 key. We can also mute the microphone with the F4 key.
The four speaker system (two at the top, two at the bottom) helps in the multimedia field, but also those video conferences in which we also have two noise canceling microphones thanks to an artificial intelligence system.
