COPENHAGEN – Police Denmark was looking for a cruise ship on a small island in the Baltic Sea, near the site of the pipeline explosion Nord Stream . This was revealed by the local administrator, Thursday (9/3/2023).
“Police are looking for a special boat that docked here in September,” said Soren Thiim Andersen, the highest authority on the island of Christiansö, told Reuters.
“The Danish Police in January searched for information about ships docking at Christiansö on September 16-18, interviewing local residents, collecting footage from the port, and gathering information from port ticket machines,” Andersen continued.
Earlier, German authorities confirmed on Wednesday (8/3/2023), that they had raided a ship in January that may have been used to transport explosives used to blow up pipelines.
The September 26 explosion on the Nord Stream pipeline, built to supply Russian natural gas to Europe, has become a flashpoint between the West and Russia after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year.
Authorities in Sweden, Germany and Denmark, who are currently investigating the explosion, say it was intentional, but have not said who may have been responsible.
However, media reports this week in the United States and Germany suggested pro-Ukrainian groups could be responsible.
German broadcaster ARD and newspaper Zeit reported that German authorities were able to identify the ship used for the sabotage operation.
The operation to place explosives on the seabed was carried out by six men, who sailed from Rostock on September 6 and then located off the Danish island of Christianö, according to the report.
Christiansö is part of a small archipelago about 18 km northeast of the island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. The archipelago of just 98 inhabitants is a former naval fortress but remains under the administration of the Danish ministry of defence.
