Unusual episode a few minutes from the end of Padova-Piacenza, the match resumed only thanks to the player’s intervention
“It’s raining in the wet” was the most recurring joke. In the 94th minute the match Padova-Piacenza (1-1) was temporarily suspended due to a fault in the irrigation system which lit three fire hydrants one after the other, to the general astonishment of the players, referee and crowd. Minutes pass but no one intervenes.
As the referee nervously watches his watch, the crowd begins to rumble (and sing the classic chorus around here, “This stadium is ca…”). Then some players try to intervene, first Russini trying to stop the jet with his foot (in vain) then Radrezza, from the bench. The player goes to the east stand, on the side of the “crazy” fire hydrants (actually the problem is with the timer set incorrectly), with sandbags. Thanks to Radrezza’s intervention, the game restarted for the few remaining seconds. In the end, the interruption lasted about ten minutes and penalized above all Torrente’s team for the possible final attack. In fact, the referee was very careful not to allow extra minutes. After the lean figure on the field for the draw with the last in the standings, that too… on the sideline with the fire hydrants. It’s not exactly the year of Padua.
