The current Landstede Basketball originated from Red Giants from Meppel, which played in the Eredivisie since 1987. In 1996 the club from Meppel moved to Zwolle. Herman van den Belt from Rijssen became assistant coach at that time, and then moved on as head coach in 2000. An icon in the basketball world who played a major role in achieving the various successes of Landstede Hammers. Together with assistant coach Mark van Schutterhoef.
