The fourth installment of John Wick hits theaters today. Film that once again has the actor Keanu Reeves as the protagonist, in his fight against the high table
Keanu Reeves returns with one of his signature roles in John Wick 4. When the hit man discovers a way to defeat The High Table – a council of twelve criminal men who rule the most powerful organizations in the underworld. Which has offered a million dollars for Wick’s head. But before Wick can win freedom from him. He must face a new enemy with powerful alliances around the world that turns his old friends into deadly enemies.

A new day is dawning in the world of Wick. New rules, new ideas and new management, epitomized by the sadistic leader of La Alta Mesa, the Marquis. Returning in this new installment are Laurence Fishburne, as The Beggar King, the head of a clandestine intelligence network disguised as a homeless shelter; Ian McShane as Winston, the owner of New York’s Continental Hotel, frequented by the world’s most accomplished assassins; and the sadly missing Lance Reddick as Charon, the hotel’s loyal and distinguished concierge.
Joining the cast are Donnie Yen (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as Wick’s old friend Caine, who must turn on Wick when The High Table requests his services; Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise) as the High Table’s sadistic emissary, the Marquis; martial arts specialist and action movie star Hiroyuki Sanada (Bullet Train, Army of the Dead) as Shimazu, another old friend of Wick’s and owner of Osaka’s Continental Hotel; Shamier Anderson as The Tracker, who, as his name suggests, is hunting Wick; Rina Sawayama as Akira, Shimazu’s daughter and the janitor at the Osaka Continental; and a stunningly characterized Scott Adkins as Killa.
Criticism
The first thing to note is that if you are a fan of the franchise you will not be disappointed. If you haven’t seen any John Wick movie and you’re a lover of action movies with fight scenes full of choreography, you’re already taking a while to marathon and catch up to see this new installment.
With each film, the franchise has raised the bar again and again, and with John Wick 4 they have done it again. There is more of everything, more action, more incredible scenes, which turn the story into a background marathon for its protagonist and the viewers who suffer every blow he receives.
Highlight above all the photography of the film that gives us some incredible scenes. As well as the editing which has great merit due to the great complexity of some of its scenes. There is a scene in particular that takes place in Paris at the Arc de Triomphe, incredible. As well as a scene inside a house in an overhead shot that is brutal. There are times when it feels like you’re in a video game playing Wick in first and third person.
The performances are also great, Keanu Reeves, playing Keanu, but highlighting those of Bill Skarsgård in his role as The Marquis, he is undoubtedly a villain that is on par with Wick and even any villain from Mission Impossible or the saga of James Bond. Also ten, Donnie Yen. Which plays an old friend of Wick. Here he reprises a blind character after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. For me it was inevitable to think about his character and remember his phrase “I am one with the force, the force is with me.” Another endearing actor that we can find in John Wick 4 is a
Clancy Brown the famous Kurgan from the movie The immortalswho also utters the words “There can only be one left”, at a point in the film in reference to the mythical film of 86.
In short, John Wick 4 is an honest film that does not try to deceive the viewer, and despite its 2:45 hours of footage it is very entertaining, giving the viewer little respite. Pay attention because there is a post credits scene.
