At some point before its release, we thought Cyberpunk 2077 would be great and deliver a dystopia of the genre with current production values. The expectation was that Night City would reflect those inequalities and crises framed by technological advancement in every detail. However, the story is familiar, and one of the elements that fans were disappointed to miss was a subway system that, sadly, will never arrive, even with the DLC.

Forget it: there will never be a subway system in Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 fans went from excited to saddened by information related to the possibility of the long-awaited subway system being implemented in the game with the arrival of its Phantom Liberty expansion. It all started when a CD Projekt RED artist, Vladimír Vilimovský (via The Gamer), spoke in an interview on the subject but a translation error created false hopes that were transferred to reddit with a post that attracted the attention of the community.
A word of clarification on this topic as many people have been tagging me since yesterday. Nothing has changed regarding the metro system in Cyberpunk 2077 – we do not plan on adding it in the future. pic.twitter.com/z7UEtyDVzH

However, and as shown in the tweet above, the expectation escalated to such a level that CD Projekt took notice and through the community manager, Marcin Momot, the following message was shared: “a clarification on this issue already that many people have been tagging me since yesterday. Nothing has changed regarding the subway system in Cyberpunk 2077 – we don’t plan to add it in the future.”

The statement is lapidary because in case you don’t know, or don’t remember, Phantom Liberty will be the only expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 and future plans already consider a sequel, so it is a fact that in this first and ill-fated game, the system underground and its symbolism of the dystopian future of the genre will not happen.
