BEIJING, 15 MAR – The commitment of the US, the UK and Australia “on nuclear non-proliferation is pure deception: trilateral cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines represents the first time in history that a country equipped with nuclear weapons transfers nuclear-powered reactors for submarines and a large amount of highly enriched uranium for military use to a country without nuclear weapons”. This is the comment of Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin on the plan announced on Monday by Aukus, adding that the agreement “poses serious risks that violate the purpose of the Treaty on the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons”.
