BEIJING – United States of America (US) must stop “fan the flames” of conflict in Ukraine instead of making accusations against Beijing. This was announced by a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs China Wang Wenbin.
Wang’s statement was in response to remarks by US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby earlier in the day. Kirby said he could not see China being impartial when it came to the battle between Moscow and Kiev.
“Beijing has failed to condemn Russia’s military operations, while continuing to buy energy from the country,” Kirby added.
Kirby noted that Chinese President Xi Jinping found it fit to fly all the way to Moscow this week, but never spoke to his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky.
Responding to this, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China rejected Kirby’s claim. He stated that the US itself was too involved in the conflict in Ukraine to accuse Beijing of bias.
“The US side claims that China’s stance is impartial. But is it impartial to continue supplying weapons to the battlefield? Is it impartial to constantly escalate conflict? Is it impartial to allow the effects of the crisis to spread globally?” Wang said, referring to the policies of the Biden administration.
“We advise the American side to rethink its own stance on the Ukraine issue, turn away from the wrong path by adding fuel to the fire, and stop blaming China,” he added.
“China has no selfish motives in the Ukraine issue, does not stand idly by… or seek benefits for itself,” said Wang.
