An interesting thesis defense took place at the Expanded Reality Laboratory of the Cultural Platform of the University of Chile, where a journalism student decided to leave the conventional scheme of defending his title with a presentation before a commission, to give free rein to a conversation about the metaverse from the metaverse itselfa risky but effective decision to demonstrate the validity of your research.
Camilo Vidal Vallejos took the bet further with his defense of memory entitled “The entry of the metaverse into the information age”, which “explores the history of the metaverse as well as the challenges and opportunities it presents in various fields, paying special attention to ethical and journalistic aspects.” and invited the evaluation committee and attendees to a virtual space designed by himself to complement his presentation and put into practice the proper use of the metaverse as an educational tool.
Using virtual reality glasses, the academics visited a 3D museum with a Metaverse History Exposure, with samples of the main milestones and multimedia material as support in different exhibition rooms. The title defense was carried out in a space prepared for this, with a presentation screen, objects and spaces to interact.
Camilo managed to demonstrate at his university that the metaverse serves as a way to bring these new technologies to the area of communication and interactive content creation, something that complements his guide professor, Lionel Brosi, who considers this “a milestone in terms of the integration of these types of technologies in higher education”. On Camilo’s part, this represents a great achievement in the world of communications and technology, which meant a successful degree.
