The landing of chinese manufacturers with electric models has accelerated in Europe. Months ago we explained that from the Asian country they are very interested in the arrival of their firms in our continent and that they see the electric car as a means to gain a foothold in an industry that until now has resisted them.
In this landing, in which we see cars of all kinds of prices, from very cheap and simple options like the MG 4 Electric to the striking NIO vehicles, Spain did not seem to enter the short-term plans. The reason and the consequences are obvious: our country sells very few electric cars and the fact that Chinese manufacturers ignore our market does not help to reduce current prices.
However, BYD Yes, it will be one of the brands that bet on the Spanish market. We have known for months that the manufacturer intends to establish itself in our country and has even raised rumors that they are willing to produce new vehicles on Spanish soil. We now know that his goals are ambitious.
BYD wants its cars to be touchable
When we talk about the arrival of new makers, it is common for the first steps to be taken with units that arrive in droppers or are sold exclusively online. However, the Chinese manufacturer has announced that it has partnered with the Astara, Quadis and Caetano groups, who will be in charge of its distribution and sale.
Although, predictably, their models are not available at all points of sale, it must be taken into account that these groups add up to nearly 200 locations throughout the national territory. A strategy that moves away from others such as offering just one point of sale in the most important cities in the country.
As for the models that will be marketed in Spain, for now we know that the strategy is to offer the BYD Atto 3, a car for which a rumored price starts at more than 40,000 euros but, for now, it has not been confirmed to us for the brand. This model is a C-segment SUV that will come with a 60.5 kWh battery.
The offer will be expanded with the BYD Tang, a seven-seater family SUV with all-wheel drive and an 86.4 kWh battery. Finally, the initial offer will be closed by the BYD Han, a large sports sedan, also with all-wheel drive and a battery that, in this case, will be 85.4 kWh. As for their autonomy, maximums of 528 kilometers are expected for the Tang, 565 for the Atto 3 and up to 662 kilometers for the Hang.
Among the incentives, BYD boasts of its e-Platform 3.0, which integrates the battery into the car’s chassis, improving its rigidity and allowing a lower center of gravity. Soon we will receive more details about the brand and we hope to be able to tell you more news.
From its distribution, BYD already operates in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany, France, the Netherlands and Belgium, markets to which the United Kingdom and Spain will join this 2023.
