The demand for various forms of asylum seekers’ reception has increased enormously in the Netherlands in recent years, but will continue to increase in the near future. So much so that the cabinet is even working on a ‘distribution law’ in which municipalities may or may not be forced to cooperate. The main initiators of the proposal, Burgerbelangen and VVD, want to get ahead of that. According to a ‘fair distribution’, Enschede is still at the bar for 550 asylum seekers. “But soon there will be a thousand or more. We are not waiting for that,” said BBE party leader Barry Overink.
