Synopsis
On the other side of the door, was time in its entirety… As the sky turns red and the earth trembles, Japan stands on the brink of disaster. But a determined teenager, Suzume, sets out on a mission to save the country from her. Able to see the supernatural forces that others cannot, it will be up to her to close the mysterious doors that sow chaos throughout the country. A dangerous journey awaits her in which the fate of the country is in her hands.
“Suzume is mainly based on the huge disaster that Japan suffered twelve years ago,” Shinkai said. “I’m looking forward to seeing what this film represents for an international audience: what makes sense, what doesn’t, and what commonalities we have across cultures. I hope that the imminent international premiere of the film will give me the answers to those questions”.
