A remake of The Room? Indeed, Tommy Wiseau’s classic will feature Bob Odenkirk as the main protagonist of the film.
Bob Odenkirk to star in The Room remake. If they needed someone to play Johnny in the remake of the legendary Tommy Wiseau movie… They’ve called the best option of all.
As confirmed by /Film, Bob Odenkirk has been chosen to star the remake of Tommy Wiseau’s infamous indie film, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. “I am very excited about the remake of The Room, shot for the most part on green screen. The role of Tommy Wiseau is played by Odenkirk, and I’m not kidding,” said podcaster Justin Decloux on Twitter. The remake of The Room led by the Better Call Saul actor will benefit amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research. Acting For a Cause is also involved in the production.
What can we expect from this curious remake?
The green screen remake of The Room is directed by Acting For a Cause founder Brando Crawford. Who, among others, has shared several photos of the production on social media. One of Crawford’s photos seems to confirm that Greg Sestero, who played Mark in the original version of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room, is cast in the remake. Sestero appears to be playing Chris-R, a role filled by Dan Janjigian in the original film. As for Bob Odenkirk, /Film explains that the Breaking Bad alumnus was on set in January.
Originally released in June 2003, the original version of The Room starred Wiseau, who also served as a writer, director, producer and executive producer. The film centers on Johnny (Wiseau), a San Francisco banker who discovers that his fiancée, Lisa (Juliette Danielle), is having an affair with his best friend, Mark (Sestero). In the years since its release, this unintentionally hilarious film has become a cult classic, often referred to as “the Citizen Kane of bad movies.” We’ll see what Bob Odenkirk can add to all of this.
