JAKARTA – Zuhair Al Shun, Palestinian Ambassador to Indonesia, opened his voice regarding the issue of the Israeli national football team’s refusal to compete in the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
Some elements of Indonesian society reject the presence of the Israeli National Team because of their solidarity with Palestine, which until now is still occupied by the Israeli Zionist regime.
However, Ambassador Zuhair does not mind if the Israeli national team is present in Indonesia at the 2023 U-20 World Cup. The football festival will be held from May to next June.
Zuhair said the Israeli national team’s participation in the tournament was in accordance with the rules of the International Football Federation (FIFA) and this would not necessarily reduce Indonesia’s support as the host for the struggle of the Palestinian people.
He also said that the Israeli national team on this occasion had met the qualifications to take part, so it would not be wrong for them to play in Indonesia. Zuhair added that all of these rules would of course return to FIFA.
With these arguments, Ambassador Zuhair’s figure became the focus of the Indonesian public because he did not isolate Israel before any other country, including Indonesia.
