Profile and Biodata of Henry Kissinger
The US diplomat was born with the full name Heinz Alfred Kissinger on May 27, 1923 in Furth, Germany. His Jewish status, he and his family fled to the United States from Nazi persecution in 1938.
After officially becoming a naturalized citizen in the United States, he served in the US Army during World War II. At that time, he was also a German translator.
Having studied at Harvard University, Kissinger began to become a consultant for several government agencies during the 1950-1960s. Around 1968, president-elect Richard Nixon appointed him National Security Advisor.
Nixon even took a surprising step when appointing Kissinger as Secretary of State. That makes him a concurrent position.
In the course of his career, Kissinger recorded many diplomatic achievements that were quite influential, both for the US and internationally. One of them is contributing to OPEC’s decision to lift the oil embargo on the United States.
In addition, he has made a series of visits to the capitals of various Middle Eastern countries. As a result, an agreement was reached in January 1974 between Israel and Egypt, followed by an agreement between Syria and Israel in May 1974.
Kissinger also played a major role in the negotiations leading to the August 1975 Helsinki Accords. In September 1975, he helped finalize the second agreement between Egypt and Israel that brought the two countries closer to a peace treaty.
However, in addition to the many contributions he has made, Kissinger is also not free from controversy.
Of the many, one that had an uproar was when predicting the destruction of Israel. In 2012, he said Israel would disappear in the next ten years (2022).
Not without reason, Kissinger considers that Israel is considered no longer able to survive the support for Palestine that comes from Islamic countries. Apart from that, according to him, the United States also cannot continue to sustain Israel from the onslaught of its neighboring countries.
