ROME, 02 MAR – The eastward shift of a minimum in altitude forming over the western Mediterranean will cause, tomorrow, a worsening of the meteorological conditions in the extreme southern regions of Italy, with phenomena including thunderstorms which will particularly affect the western sectors of Sicily. This was announced by the Civil Protection Department, which on the basis of the forecasts available in agreement with the regions involved – which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting on the various areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it). From the early hours of tomorrow, Friday 3 March, the warning forecasts scattered rainfall, including downpours or thunderstorms, over Sicily, especially in the western sectors. The phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, a yellow alert was assessed for tomorrow on the entire territory of Marche and Sicily and on the southern sectors of Calabria. (HANDLE).
