When Asus coined the wording “ROG” (Republic of Gamers) he has shown that he has a good eye and knows how to choose his marketing strategies welland the new ROG Gladius III Wireless it is a bit of a concrete demonstration of it. After all, over the years, the division designed for gamers (and not only) of the Taiwanese company has been able to demonstrate that it has more and more knowledge of itself and its work, becoming a real guarantee for all fans of the tech world. And, in this regard, when it comes to being able to get your hands (it is appropriate to say it!) on a device from the ROG line, especially among the main peripherals, I am always very curious and anxious to be able to test in a tangible way the progress made by one of the now most famous brands of the videogame and technological medium. In this case, Asus allowed me to test one of its most interesting devices, the ROG Gladius III Wireless gaming mouse, a product as elegant and minimal in its design as it is extremely precise and reliable in use, both for the most demanding enthusiasts and for everyday use, such as office work and so on. In short: Has Asus hit the mark again with the Gladius ROG III Wireless? The answer is yes, even if there is always some small uncertainty. If you are curious to find out my complete opinion, well, you just have to continue reading the complete review.
Asus ROG Gladius III Wireless: a refined and damn elegant design
The first aspect I want to focus on in this review is clearly what immediately catches the eye: the design and the contents of the package. Starting from the packaging, Asus maintains and indeed confirms its policy dedicated to design minimal and super elegant, with a very small package that simply exceeds the size of the device and the rest of the package contents for the necessary space. In fact, together with the ROG Gladius III Wireless, there is a USB cable with Type-C connector (with an adaptor), flexible and of good quality, and spare connectors a 5 pin, i ROG Micro-Switchwhich can be replaced (at the user’s discretion) with those already included in the mouse a 3 pin. The difference, clearly, can be found in the precision of the 5-pin switches, whose downside is faster wear of the keys themselves. The package also includes various manual documents in general, but clearly the most important object is the ROG Gladius III, whose appearance is truly intriguing and at the same time functional. First of all, it is necessary to deal first with the aspect relating to the materials with which the mouse was made, which I found to be of really excellent quality. The device is made with a plastic of fine workmanshipwhich testifies to Asus’ desire both to give continuity to its work with the ROG series and to present on the market a device capable of merging quality with utility.
The upper and front part is decidedly linear, with the two main buttons, a wheel made of semi-transparent plastic and the small selector for the DPI. To stand out is the symbol of the Asus ROG line present on the lower part of the mouse, illuminated by the inevitable RGB LEDs of the Asus Aura Sync line which guarantees the usual, great, overall quality. The sensor stands out on the back and on the support PixArt PAW3370which guarantees the device a very high precision, which reaches altitude 19.000 DPI. On the back of the mouse there is also what is perhaps the only flaw in terms of design, namely the button for the connectivity selector. Honestly, and I have very small hands, I found the switch too small and too “stuck”, therefore uncomfortable to use, but it is still a very fussy clarification. Nothing to say and, indeed, only compliments to Asus for the lateral design of the mouse. Both sides are characterized by lines that follow the silhouette of the device, ensuring a truly excellent grip as well as a beautiful visual impact: in fact, the aforementioned strips are characterized by small writings illuminated by the LEDs I was telling you about earlier. The left side features the two classic keys designed for macros, freely customizable via software. You may be wondering if the mouse is really as comfortable as I say, right? Well yes, also because it can boast a very low weight (only 89g)which makes the product really comfortable for all types of players.
User experience, connectivity and software
Before going into the specifics of the user experience with the device, which I tried practically every day for a good week, it is necessary to tell you about its great customization freedom, both “practical” and in terms of connectivity. The Asus ROG Gladius III Wireless is in fact freely customizable from practically all points of viewthanks to the free software Armoury Crate, thanks to which it is possible to touch and retouch different aspects of the mouse, both aesthetic (color of the LEDs, type of lighting, etc.) and practical, such as the use of the keys, sensitivity and so on. As always, Asus gives great freedom of action to its users, which is also reflected, as I said earlier, in the connectivity. The ROG Gladius III, precisely Wireless, is a device designed for three types of connections, at the user’s discretion. The wireless version, it must be said, costs a little more, but also allows you to connect the device wirelessly to your PC, thanks to the supplied connector on the back of the mouse, which is based on a 2.4GHz RF connection . In addition to this type of connection, it is also possible to connect the mouse to the PC via Bluetooth or with the cable I mentioned at the beginning, of excellent workmanship and ease of use, which also works as a recharge. Just staying on the subject of wireless connectivity, I want to underline the great autonomy of the mousewhich boasts an estimated lifespan of 55 ore declared by the company and which I was able to confirm practically across the board.
But how does the mouse behave in detail? During the testing phase I tried the device with various titles, including the inevitable ones Overwatch 2 and Warzone 2.0, as well as less frenetic products like Diablo 2, Football Manager 2023 and so on. Needless to tell you that, thanks to the fusion of construction quality and great refinement in terms of mere “power”, the Gladius III Wireless it really impressed me, proving to be one of the best gaming mice I’ve tried so far. Thanks to the high DPI value, the programmable keys and the selectable profiles based on the game, which can be easily switched with a simple key, the device has proved to be a proud ally of even a modest player like me, even during shooting and in more agitated situations. Let me be clear, videogame miracles do not exist, but it is clear that with such an object in your hands, performance can improve significantly, especially if you enter the right perspective and if you fully understand the dynamics that revolve around gaming devices. The thing that struck me about this mouse, however, is also its great impact in daily use. With the work I do, it is clear that the PC is one of my most important weapons and I must say that since the little Asus entered my office it has greatly facilitated my work rhythms. Precise, reliable, punctual, this mouse is seriously capable of being able to wink at all needs, and I am convinced that, net of a still high list price (the only defect if we want to of the product), whoever buys it never regrets it.
Final verdict
The Asus ROG Gladius III Wireless is a product that sincerely impressed me. The Asus mouse works really well, it’s comfortable and also nice to look at, and can become the perfect companion both for gaming sessions and for the most common and everyday jobs. Also in terms of connectivity and construction, the Taiwanese company has done an excellent job, of which I struggle to find real defects. Probably, as previously mentioned, the layout of some keys can be reviewed and the list price (€110.00) is a bit high, but I’m sure these two aspects won’t make those looking for valuable tools for his collection.
