Arsenal have booked their fifth win in a row in the Premier League. The leader was much too strong for Fulham at Craven Cottage 3-0. Leandro Trossard was important with three assists.
The win brings Arsenal to 66 points. Close attacker Manchester City, which won 1-0 at Crystal Palace on Saturday, follows on 5 points. Fulham remain in eighth place. With the home team, Dutch defender Kenny Tete played the entire match.
Arsenal took the initiative from the first minute and seemed to open the score after fifteen minutes. However, Antonee Robinson’s own goal was disallowed for offside leading up to the goal. Five minutes later, the 1-0 still fell, after the Brazilian defender Gabriel had headed in a corner from Trossard.
On a pass from Trossard again, Gabriel Martinelli headed in the 2-0 moments later. The Belgian winger signed for his third assist just before half-time. He found Martin Ødegaard between several Fulham defenders, after which the midfielder gave himself space to shoot the 3-0 past keeper Bernd Leno.
Trossard, who came over from Brighton & Hove Albion in January, came in a nice row. The attacker is the third Arsenal player with a hat-trick of assists in an away game in the Premier League after Thierry Henry and Robin van Persie.
Manchester United failed to win the Premier League for the second time in a row. After the 7-0 defeat at Liverpool, coach Erik ten Hag’s team got stuck at 0-0 against Southampton. United midfielder Casemiro was shown the red card in the 34th minute. Wout Weghorst was substituted moments later, Tyrell Malacia remained on the bench.
