The Ant-Man 3 movie has introduced many new supporting characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and now we know more about one of them.
The actor David Dastmalchian has played Kurt in the first two installments of Ant-Man (2015-2018), now he has given life to Veb in the third installment. This gelatinous character has some of the funniest moments, but he has a tragic backstory that the Ant-Man 3 movie didn’t tell.
In a recent interview with TD, David Dastmalchian was asked if he could reveal details of Veb’s past.
“To fully understand in Ant-Man 3 the power of what happens cellularly and molecularly with Veb, and what happens with Veb, and Veb’s kind of transcendent bioexperience, where the ability of Veb’s bodily fluids to have an effect on the brains of other creatures doing something with their communication vortexes is, to me, the kind of thing that evolves and grows out of that old school, Marvel, sci-fi magic.”
“That’s why I was thinking a lot about Micronauts when I was thinking about Veb. I was thinking a lot about what was going on in the ’70s and ’80s, the Fantastic Four comics that I was first getting… Because I got a box of ’70s Fantastic Four comics when I was in the mid-’80s, and I fell in love with them. And then, especially in the ’80s, I was reading a lot of Fantastic Four. There’s all this stuff about these types of characters and these creatures.”
“And I felt like with this being from Ant-Man 3, this beautiful little being Veb, with this incredibly powerful ability. I made the decision, not to mean as much to Veb as the bond Veb felt to all the other beings who shared Veb’s source. I think we all came from the same source, and when the Pathfinder took over, as we know from pathfinders today, one of the best ways to win people over is to separate them.”

Is Veb the last of his kind?
“We see it constantly in our face where people in power want to convince you and me that people who can’t speak the same languages as us, people who look different from us, people who come from different places than ours, the people who worship differently from us are somehow much more different than they really are. What Veb possesses is the ability to connect beings, right? The Conqueror has eliminated all beings with that potential.”
“So in Ant-Man 3 all of Veb’s family, everyone connected is pretty much gone now. Veb, as far as he knows, is the last of his kind. I hope and pray that there is another Time or a Fish somewhere. But I found him to be very powerful, very emotional, and just as goofy and funny as he is as the character. And by the way, he is my son’s favorite character that I have ever played. I think he’s a little heavy like that, and I love it.” David Dastmalchian concluded.
