“Ballerina has been a fascinating journey for me, because it started as a project unrelated to the John Wick movies six years ago,” said the screenwriter of the Ana de Armas film. “And then Chad was kind enough to let us set it up in three parts showing the ballet theatre. And by the nature of that, it kind of teases this story very well. But it’s great because that story was not tied to the universe of the saga. It was set in another part of the world.”
“The original script for the Ana de Armas film was set in the Swiss Alps,” he explained. “Territory that the John Wick movies haven’t touched. So, in my opinion, that meant we could stick to the original story of the Ballerina script without treading on the main saga ground. But she’s also a character that we know went to the same ballet academy as John. I think in Ballerina you will see some of the hints of what John experienced during his origins in that place. But through the eyes of a different character. He’s still working out some of Wick’s answers, just through the eyes of a new character.”
