Since the first trailer for Blondethere was a lot of interest to see the performance of Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroeone of the great myths of Hollywood. But, curiously, the film was very divisive, since there are people who did not like it very much, but she has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress.
Now, it’s been her own Ana de Armas who has revealed in THR how the reactions to the film were very different.
“When we premiered the film in Venice or San Sebastian, the reaction was much warmer than the reception in the United States. Of course, the most striking reaction is from the United States, but that was not the whole experience. It’s hard to hear these reactions, but you can always go back to what you experienced, and why you did it, and why you were attracted to the project. That will not change. You have the director and you have other actors that you can always talk to. Although it’s hard to hear when people don’t like your movie, it is what it is. It wasn’t a movie that was made to please people or to make people like it. It’s a hard movie to watch.”
“I don’t think the movie speaks ill of her one bit. I think it’s the opposite. I think it badmouths the environment and the industry, and that’s a hard pill to swallow sometimes for other people in the business. I feel that the film also makes the audience feel like a participant. We contributed at the time, and continue to contribute, in the exploitation of actors, people in the public eye. We, the audience, do this. And I feel like some people may have felt like someone pointed the finger at them.” he concluded Ana de Armas.
