Amnesia The Bunker it’s changing the series developers’ already proven formula in more ways than one, starting with a more open-world approach. Indeed, what has caught the attention of many is the promise of a much more dynamic and non-linear adventure that will make each playthrough unique. In a recent GamingBolt interview, new details about this aspect of the game emerged thanks to the creative lead Frederik Olsson.
According to Olsson, the key gameplay element that Frictional Games adopted for the development of the new Amnesia was to allow players to want to play the title again, thanks to the procedural generation of enemies and environments. In this way, Olsson states that the title it will avoid both being linear and predictable. Continuing the interview, the creative lead continued by adding that:
“One of the key pillars of the design of this game has been to make it an experience where players will want to play it again, either on their own or after watching someone else play it. We’ve made a significant effort to avoid linearity and predictability, making sure that every aspect of the game presents a certain level of challenge, no matter how many times you play it. The player should never know exactly what it will take him to overcome an obstacle. To achieve this, we have opted for a number of mechanics that we believe form a solid foundation for this type of experience. The continuously burning fuel generator introduces an element of time and can instantly change your situation if it runs out. Combine this with the dynamic threat hunting you, noisy tools like the revolver or grenades, and a noisy light source, and you have a very dynamic and unscripted setup. Gameplay is heavily influenced by player actions, ensuring each playthrough is unique.”
The new title will also see the procedural generation of collectibles such as traps and resources, along with codes and puzzles that will be randomized with each gameplay.
We remind you that Amnesia The Bunkerafter the postponement, the will be available May 16 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
