This week at GDC, AMD hosted a series of developer sessions where it unveiled exciting announcements and enhancements to the AMD FidelityFX Toolkit, as well as showcased AMD technologies with key partners. Among these technologies are:
1) AMD FidelityFX SDK – The new SDK makes it less complex and agile to implement AMD technologies in games by including all AMD FidelityFX tools in one place and with an easy-to-use API, providing a easier integration. AMD also revealed three new AMD FidelityFX effects:
AMD FidelityFX Depth of Field Effect, which helps developers add fast, physically correct DoF to their games. AMD FidelityFX Lens – Adds various lens effects such as film grain, chromatic aberration, and vignette. AMD FidelityFX Blur – includes highly optimized blur cores.
2) AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3 – AMD gave a first look at how FSR 3, the next generation of AMD scaling technology currently in development, which will combine the super-resolution scaling technology of FSR 2, decades of I +D and AMD innovation and new AMD Fluid Motion Frames interpolation technology, to help deliver up to 2X higher frame rates in supported games.
FSR 3 will be available to developers under an open source MIT license, with the goal of offering optimal integration and flexibility.
3) Epic Games MetaHuman Animator Demo – On March 22, as part of the “State of Unreal” presentation at GDC, Epic Games revealed MetaHuman Animator doing a live demo running on AMD Ryzen Processors and AMD Radeon Graphics Cards. The MetaHuman framework enables the creation of high-fidelity, photorealistic digital humans “in a matter of minutes” for use in games and much more.
