The leader of the Eredivisie remains active on three fronts and faces busy weeks. Next week the away match against Shakhtar Donetsk awaits in the eighth finals of the Europa League, the return follows a week later.
More than two weeks ago, Heerenveen and Feyenoord also faced each other in the competition in the Abe Lenstra stadium. Thanks to goals from Lutsharel Geertruida and Giménez, the team from Rotterdam already distanced itself from the Frisians before the break, who scored once more in the second half (1-2).
Feyenoord hoped to be able to do business quickly again this time, in view of the full schedule. Slot saw his team easily win at Fortuna Sittard (2-4) on Sunday and therefore saw no reasons to make adjustments.
It soon became clear that Feyenoord was not going to have an easy evening. Heerenveen did not let the sloppy and restless playing front runner get to play football. Sydney van Hooijdonk fired the first shot on target in the 5th minute.
Slot tried to steer his team from the side, gesticulating from time to time. Especially left winger Oussama Idrissi played a bad first half. Feyenoord got two chances. Alireza Jahanbakhsh shot well over in the 19th minute and Javairô Dilrosun went wide after more than half an hour of play.
Van Hooijdonk should have shot Heerenveen ahead. After Orkun Kökcü lost the ball, Rami Al Hajj was able to reach goal unimpeded after half an hour of play. The midfielder tapped Van Hooijdonk broadly, but he shot the ball into the side net.
Heerenveen felt that there was something to be gained and started playing football more brutally as the second half progressed. Al Hajj saw a shot blocked after an hour of play and shortly afterwards Ché Nunnely was also close to the opening goal. On the other hand, goalkeeper Xavier Mous saved on a header and a shot from Quilindschy Hartman. Substitute Danilo kicked the ball over.
Feyenoord drew the game more and more towards itself. A smooth attack, via Jahanbakhsh and Danilo, resulted in a goal from Giménez in the 80th minute: 0-1. Heerenveen still tried, but the victory was no longer really in danger for Feyenoord.
Spakenburg
Feyenoord is the second club to qualify for the semi-finals of the cup tournament. Yesterday that amateur team Spakenburg already succeeded by beating Eredivisionist FC Utrecht.
Tomorrow the duels PSV – ADO Den Haag and De Graafschap – Ajax are still on the program.
