There has recently been controversy in the Pokémon TCG community due to a rather unexpected event. In it regional tournament held in Charlotte A few days ago, a player named Makani Tran laughed while saying his pronouns. This caused inconvenience to the judge, who ultimately decided expel him from the competition, causing him to only play one round before being disqualified. “The judge said that, although he believed that I did not have bad intentions, it did not matter because, after all, someone had been offended and upset,” Tran said before what happened. Of course, you have to be very careful with your forms when competing in a tournament of these characteristics.
After this event, Makani released a statement on Twitter, stating that his laugh when reciting his pronouns was caused by the nerves of the confrontation and a personal anecdote, and that he did not want to disrespect his opponent or anyone affected in any way. In response to this announcement, several players have come together to pay all the expenses of Makani’s wasted trip, declaring that the situation given in the tournament around his disqualification was unfair.
