BERLIN – Action shooting takes place in a building church in Hamburg, German . Several people were reported killed in the action.
The shooting occurred in a building used by the Jehovah’s Witnesses church in the city of Hamburg, northern Germany, on Thursday evening local time.
The shooting occurred in the Gross Borstel district, several kilometers north of the city center of Germany’s second largest city.
“We only know that some people died here; several people were injured, they were taken to hospital,” said police spokesperson Holger Vehren as quoted by The Associated Press, Friday (10/3/2023).
He said he had no information on the extent of the injuries the victims suffered.
Local media footage showed police officers outside the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a modern three-story building.
Vehren said police were alerted to the shooting around 9.15pm local time and were at the scene quickly.
He said that after officers arrived they heard gunshots from upstairs and found someone upstairs who may have been the shooter. He said police should not use their firearms.
Vehren said there was no direct indication that the shooter was on the run and it appeared that the perpetrator or perpetrators were in the building or among the dead.
