A sequel with a life of its own
A fridge full of heads is scripted by Rio Youerswith the Tom Fowler pencils and with Bill Crabtree Colors. This story resembles the blockbuster of the action movies of the eighties and nineties, with action in abundance and dynamic bullets.
Youers involves in action two Department of Defense agents that they have to investigate norse relicsspecifically an ax that keeps heads alive, even though they are severed from the rest of the body, including new characters on Brody’s Island.
The axas a deadly instrument of violence and slaughter is the link between the original plot of A Basket Full of Heads and its sequel, being such a powerful premise that it facilitates a seamless transition between the two stories.
Like a good sequelse maintains a balance between the own story narrated in the current plot and its contextualization of the original work, being very interesting and making the reader want to know more about the story, immersing himself deeply in it.
This does not prevent a part of the story from making explicit references to the plots developed in A basket full of headsmaking its connection grow as a direct sequel, but it never strays from the plot established in this story, so it can be confusing at times for those readers who haven’t read the original story.
The artistic team
Tom Fowler has a characteristic style, with a certain caricature reminiscencelike the one that appeared on movie posters from the late 1980s or early 1990s, in tune with the general atmosphere of the script and its historical setting. This style emphasizes action fast-paced and crazy of the cartoons, in addition to making them more visceral.
The ax protagonist of A fridge full of heads and its prequel, the basket
The tome published by ECC collect all six original staples of the US market while maintaining a general consistency, although in some scenes some sequential vignettes are missing that avoid instantaneous appearances, somewhat detracting from the visual and narrative fluidity of the action.
Along with the colors of Crabtreewhich extol the drawing, we must highlight the font used for the dialogues, because they make it essential to highlight the plot itself, combining perfectly with it and providing more energy to the bulletsas can be seen in the the shark appearsmaking them vibrant and vivid scenes.
A highly recommended comic
Like its predecessor, A Refrigerator Full of Heads is a good story that misleads the reader while offering a visceral action adventure. This comic begins to entertain from the first pages and does not decline at any time, on the contrary, each time it goes further and makes the reader a junkie of the plot, who cannot abandon it until it is finished.
