Today, it is very common for them to make remakes, sequels or reboots of the best sagas that are over 20 years old. That is why we will see new versions of the science fiction movies of the 90s every time, either due to a lack of ideas from the creatives of Hollywood or because nostalgia is very profitable.
Now it is the turn of Gattaca (1997), which will have a reboot for Showtime of Howard Gordon and Alex Gooseresponsible for the series Homeland (2011–2020). So, in principle, this story is in good hands.
Without a doubt, Gattaca is one of the best sci-fi movies of the 90s.
Attention SPOILERS. The story is set in the near future, where the enhancement of human hereditary traits has been imposed through various forms of manipulated intervention and selective methods. Therefore, there are two types of people, the ‘valids’ who are genetically better and get the big jobs and social standing, and the ‘invalids’ who have to settle for the menial jobs.
The protagonist is Vincent Freeman (Ethan Hawke), a male who was sired naturally and therefore his genetic profile indicates a high probability of various disorders. That’s why he works cleaning offices. But, one day he comes across a great opportunity, as he gets donated samples of hair, skin, blood and urine from the former swimming star. Jerome Eugene Morrow (Jude Law) who was paralyzed by an accident. Thanks to this genetic material, he gets a job at Gattaca, an aerospace company, which hires him for its next mission to Saturn’s moon, Titan. Although, in order not to be found out, he must be very meticulous when it comes to eliminating his own genetic material and hiding his heart defect.
A week before the space mission begins, a Gattaca administrator is killed. Finding a tab of Vincent near the crime scene, they immediately believe that he is the killer. Therefore, he asks for help from a co-worker named Irene Cassini (Uma Thurman). He also discovers that Jerome dove in front of the car to come second in a swimming meet, which was unacceptable to him.

Everything is being resolved.
In the end, we found out that Josef (Gore Vidal), one of the directors of Gattaca is the real murderer, since the administrator of the deceased company, tried to close the project. The researcher who discovers it is Anton (Loren Dean), Vincent’s brother, who reveals that he doesn’t agree with everything he is doing. For this reason, they challenge each other to a competition as they did when they were little and he realizes that his sister is achieving things on his own merits despite supposedly being genetically weaker.
Vincent manages to embark on the mission, while Jerome blows himself up with his silver medal.
