KUALA LUMPUR – The tragedy of the disappearance of aviation MH370 owned by Malaysia Airlines will enter its ninth year on March 8, 2023. Government Malaysia respond by ready to launch a new search operation.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Sunday said a new search operation would be launched if new, credible information emerged about the location of the ill-fated plane.
In a message ahead of the nine-year anniversary of the loss of flight MH370, Loke also expressed his sympathy for the families of the passengers on the Malaysia Airlines flight which disappeared without a trace.
“As transport minister, I will not close the book on this tragedy,” Loke said, as quoted by the Malay Mail.
“I reiterate the Malaysian government’s position that consideration will be given to future search operations if new and credible information becomes available about the potential location of the aircraft’s final resting place,” he said.
Flight MH370 flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014. However, the flight mysteriously disappeared over the South China Sea.
Until now, the plane and 239 people (227 passengers 12 crew members) have not been found despite multinational search efforts that have lasted for years. Of the hundreds of people, some of them are Indonesian citizens (WNI).
The underwater search for the plane in the Indian Ocean covered an area of 120,000 square kilometers and cost around RM605 million (more than Rp 2 trillion) then was suspended indefinitely in January 2017 until Malaysia accepted the company’s “no-cure, no-fee” offer. United States exploration Ocean Ocean Infinity in 2018.
The three-month search covered an area of 112,000 sq km north of the original target area, with no new discoveries when it was called off in May 2018.
