JAKARTA – There have been at least four cases of mosque bombings during Friday Prayers in the world throughout 2022. Most of these cases occurred in volatile countries to be precise in Afghanistan.
Many suspect that the bombing case during Friday prayers was carried out by the extremist group ISIS. There have been many victims who fell in this terrible event.
The following are the four most tragic Friday Prayer bombings in 2022:
1. Peshawar Mosque Bombing – Pakistan
Reporting from the BBC, in March 2022 there was a case of bombing a mosque in the city of Pesharwar, Pakistan which killed at least 56 people.
There were more than 190 people injured in the alleged suicide bombing at a Shia mosque during Friday prayers.
The incident began when two gunmen suddenly shot police outside the mosque. One policeman was killed in the shootout. The attacker then ran into the mosque and detonated the bomb.
2. Kabul Mosque Bombing – Afghanistan
The bomb explosion during Friday Prayers reappeared at the same time in April 2022. The bombing occurred at the Mosque of the Afghan Capital, Kabul.
According to VOA News, Officials in the ruling Taliban government confirmed the death toll was at least 10. But Sayed Fazil Agha, prayer leader at the Khalifa Sahib Mosque, said more than 50 worshipers had been killed.
The explosion reportedly damaged the roof of the mosque, which collapsed on worshipers. The case follows a spate of bombings on Afghan mosques and schools during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which have killed dozens of people.
3. Kunduz Mosque Bombing – Afghanistan
A week before the Friday prayer bombing in Kabul, an explosion first occurred in northern Afghanistan, in the city of Kunduz to be precise.
A bomb attack on a Sunni mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz has killed 33 people and injured 43 others, including children, officials say.
This is the second attack on the Mawlawi Sekandar Sufi mosque in recent weeks. Earlier there was a bombing on Thursday at the Shiite Muslim mosque in Mazar i Sharif, killing at least 31 people and wounding 87 others.
The attack was masterminded by ISIS as a form of revenge for the death of their former leader and spokesman.
4. Herat Mosque Bombing – Afghanistan
A few months later, in September 2022, another bombing occurred during Friday prayers in Herat, Afghanistan.
Quoting from Al Jazeera, an explosion at the Guzargah Mosque is known to have killed 18 people and 23 of them were injured.
This bombing is suspected of being an attack by the ISIL group. The Islamic extremist has carried out several suicide attacks during Friday prayers with a focus on targeting Shia Muslims.
