JAKARTA – Frank Hoogerbeets, a Dutch seismologist who suddenly went viral for predicting devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria three days before the incident.
He recently predicted that a major earthquake will shake several parts of Indonesia between March 2 to 5, 2023.
His prediction was conveyed in a video uploaded on the Youtube channel “Solar System Geometry Survey” on 27 February 2023.
In the video, Frank Hoogerbeets said an earthquake would occur in Indonesia, which would stretch thousands of kilometers and cover three regions.
Here are three areas of Indonesia that Frank Hoogerbeats predicts will be hit by a big earthquake.
1. Sulawesi
Sulawesi is one of the islands in Indonesia which is very prone to earthquakes. This is caused by several complicated tectonic activities.
Geologically, the island of Sulawesi and its surroundings is a complex area. The complexity is caused by the convergence between three lithospheric plates namely: the Australian Plate which is moving north, the Pacific Plate which is moving west, and the Eurasian Plate which is moving south-southeast.
2. Halmahera
Halmahera is an area prone to earthquakes because it is located at the confluence of four hard plates, including the Australian Plate, the Philippine Sea Plate, the Eurasian Plate and the East Mindanao Plate.
Quoted from the SSGEOS website, throughout its history, Halmahera experienced a major earthquake on December 4 2021 which had a depth of up to 160 kilometers. The earthquake had a magnitude of 6.0.
3. Banda Sea
The Banda Sea is one of the eastern parts of Indonesia which is prone to earthquakes. This is because its territory is above the Eurasian Plate, the Pacific Plate and the Indo-Australian Plate.
The Banda Sea Block has a high hazard or threat of earthquakes and tsunamis because it is located in an area of complicated tectonic conditions. The three large plates squeeze and give a lot of impact in every movement.
