NEW DELHI – At least 13 people died and more than a dozen were rescued on Thursday (30/3/2023), after they fell into a well in a Kuil Hindu Of India . The incident occurred after the floor covering the floor collapsed.
The Hindu temple is located in the center of Indore city. “Police recovered 11 bodies from the well and two people died of their injuries in hospital,” said Narottam Mishra, Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister.
Mishra also said an investigation had been launched into the accident and the families of those killed would be compensated. However, he did not mention the amount of compensation that would be given to the victim’s family.
Police official Manish Kapooriya told AFP that rescue efforts were continuing and the injured were transferred to a government hospital for treatment.
According to information received by India Today, the cover of the well collapsed while worshipers were standing on it inside the temple. Attempts were made to save those still trapped in the well. Witnesses said about two dozen people were standing on the steps of the well at the time of the incident.
Television footage showed emergency workers using ropes and ladders to reach those trapped in wells in Madhya Pradesh state. Another video shows floors collapsing and steel bars shattering, and police using ropes to cordon off the area.
