A Godzilla series will premiere on Apple TV + and the director of The Fantastic Four, Matt Shakman, will be in charge. The filmmaker broke the silence.
He will not release a great franchise, when he will already have to enter another. This is how Matt Shakman’s career will be for the next few years. Although his name may not seem very well known, the director had a great career in Hollywood during the time. However, the big studios seemed to fall in love with him so much that even without experience in the seventh art, they are willing to bring his talent to the big screen. And it is that he has never directed for cinema, only for television so far. Some of his credits include series like Succession, Game of Thrones or WandaVision. He now he prepares to take over the reins of Godzilla.

In addition, his entrance to Marvel through the debut of the UCM on television opened the doors to keep the job in The Fantastic Four. The creative will occupy the seat that Jon Watts vacated and that John Krasinski rejected.
Returning to the scenario of the great monsters or kaijus, he will have the important mission of once again adapting the Japanese classic. A giant reptile-like creature that threatens the ocean will once again be the focus of a major production. Not in the meantime, it will be a series of Apple TV+. In his statements, the developer has made it clear that the plan is for this to become an important brand and saga in the industry.
first details
This show will be part of a timeline that is already being built with other titles such as Kong: La Isla Calavera or Godzilla vs. Kong. Still, Shakman didn’t want to say too much about whether it’s a prequel or a sequel. “You know, I can’t really say because that’s part of the joy, actually the timelines (are) a big part of the storytelling,” he told Collider. “So I just want to say that’s part of it, but I can’t really say more than that,” she added.
After revealing some details, the filmmaker resolved an important question about why so little has been known about it. The answer was logical because although Godzilla is an important name in the history of cinema, a series has resources limiteda point that he defended in his words.
“It is, it’s part of everything, obviously, no matter the scale of something. you always run out of money eventually, even if it’s Harry Potter or Star Wars, Star Trek, Godzilla, you run out of money. But it’s less about taking shots, though eventually, you have to do that, and more about telling stories. You know, how much Godzilla was going to have in the story, and he has a huge role to play, and how he influences the series is a big part of that. So that was the biggest driver, and he’s not the only titan you’ll meet on the road. So yeah, there’s a VFX conversation constantly going on on that,” he went on to comment.
Back to franchise
With all of the above in mind, Shakman couldn’t help but how excited he is to return to this MonsterVerse. He was part of the team Adam Wingard in Godzilla vs. Kongso it meant an important return for him.
“There is some overlap, although we weren’t very involved in talking about it with Adam Wingard and his team. Legendary is the studio for our show as well as the movies, so they sit at the junction between the two, and they have a mythology department which is wonderful. So they have opinions about how things can overlap, how certain creatures should stay on one side or the other, so there’s a lot of talk about that. But in terms of how closely the narratives overlap, it’s not that complicated to say, sort of a Disney+ movie crossover of UCM. It is less organized ”, he concluded.
