5G Broadcast emissions
This pilot project that Cellnex Telecom has launched, together with Rohde Schwarz, Ateme and Qualcomm Technologies, can mean a before and after for all those users who regularly see DTT on their mobiles. Above all, when they do it with the mobile network and consume the data of your rate.
However, tomorrow, if this pilot project goes ahead, it will be very different. More than anything, because they have been able to prove the 5G broadcasts (5GBC) that will leave us, as users, the possibility of watching DTT live on our mobiles without using data.
And best of all, they have launched it at the international audiovisual show ISE. In addition, the Cellnex company has communicated that the tests of this pilot project will end after the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2023, which will take place at Fira Gran Via in L’Hospitalet from February 27 to March 2 of this year. Basically, because both events are held in the same venue.
Pilot project
With this emission test with the 5G Broadcast network, it has been possible to verify how the fact of rReceive live TV and radio content without using mobile data. And, in addition to not consuming data, it has also been made clear that the device’s battery consumption is lower.
In addition, in this pilot project we have had the collaboration of RTVEsince the contents that have been accessed using this technology have been the news channel of Radio Televisión Española, Canal 24h, as well as La1 and Radio 5 of Radio Nacional de España.
And, for the test to carry out the tests of this pilot project, the Cellnex company has had to deploy a new location to give coverage to the area around the venue where the event has been held. Rohde Schwarz has provided the transmitter and the encoding of the content has been carried out with Ateme equipment. Lastly, the receivers they have been using for the startup feature Qualcomm technology.
The Cellnex company has expressed that the main idea of 5G Broadcast emissions is to reach more devices. In this way, not only mobile phones, but thanks to this technology we will be able to view content directly on devices without using data.
