Vitesse has booked a victory over FC Utrecht with one man less. Million Manhoef gave coach Phillip Cocu’s team the lead after more than an hour, about 10 minutes after defender Carlens Arcus was sent off with a red card. In injury time, Maximilian Wittek decided the game from a quick outbreak: 2-0.
Arcus had to leave after hitting Sander van de Streek’s knee with a high leg around the center line. Referee Jannick van der Laan drew red for the Haitian after looking back at the images.
The home club took the lead, with Marco van Ginkel and Nicolas Isimat-Mirin returning to the starting line-up for the first time. The fast Manhoef trumped defenders Mike van der Hoorn and Mark van der Maarel and shot the ball past keeper Vasilios Barkas with his left. The 21-year-old attacker scored for the third game in a row.
FC Utrecht went on the hunt for the equalizer with one man more, but the team of coach Michael Silberbauer did not get further than a shot by top scorer Anastasios Douvikas on the post. Deep into injury time, Vitesse’s ten came to 2-0 via Wittek. The team from Arnhem, who gave up a 2-0 lead against FC Emmen last week, climb to twelfth place in the Eredivisie.
